Zutara: War stories

Description

My zutarian entry for Zimeta's Old People in Art contest has some pretty history:
...Long ago I've stumbled upon a certain lulzworthy post at CAPSTARA, and from that time a wish to draw old!Zutara was blossoming out, slowly but inevitably.

...Then again when news on Legend of Korra was aired I knew our fanon deserved better than that post-canon. Drawing Zuko and Katara always young is fun indeed, but some glance into the future, a proper zutarian future - that's what I seriously lacked.

And so here is my favourite couple (perhaps in their mid-80s?) with their grandson (who inherited granny's eyes, aww, cute) telling him the story of the War, which brought them together all those years ago. But telling without showing is dull, isn't it; especially when they're both Masters Waterbender and Firebender. So it's interactive - with a Fire nation airship vs Appa the flying bison, a tale of loss, suffering, death - and romance on top of it all.

Being an impatient sketcher that I am it took considerable willpower to get myself preoccupied with details, and at some point (after 8 hours or so) kinda weird enjoyment creeped in. But that's what the contests are for, arent' they?

Also, for Zutara Week-2010 day 1: Family.

The fire at first looked like the drilling of the walls of Ba Sing Se, and the water looked like the Serpent at the Serpent's Pass. After I read the captions, I saw how it looked like Appa and an airship, respectively.
